Gulf University’s College of Law Organizes a Panel Discussion on Mediation in Disputes and Its Impact on the Judicial System in Bahrain

On Wednesday, December 13, 2023, the College of Law at Gulf University organized a panel discussion titled “Mediation in Disputes and Its Impact on the Development of the Judicial System in the Kingdom of Bahrain.” The session featured a distinguished group of legal experts and academics, aiming to enhance students’ skills and keep pace with developments in alternative dispute resolution laws.

The main speakers included Dr. Fidaa Abdullah Abdulqader, CEO of Daman Legal Company; Dr. Ahmed Al-Matawa, an expert in international public law; and Dr. Hisham Saeed Al-Osi, an expert in commercial law and Head of the Legal Studies Department at Gulf University’s College of Law.

The key discussion points centered on several critical topics: the role of legislation in supporting Bahrain’s judicial system, types of mediation under Bahraini legislation, procedures and conditions of mediation under Law No. 22 of 2019 and its amendments, and finally, the judicial applications of mediation and the qualifications required of mediators in various criminal, commercial, Sharia, and civil cases in Bahraini courts.

The speakers highlighted the importance of mediation as an effective tool for dispute resolution, emphasizing its role in enhancing efficiency within the judicial system. They also pointed out the pressing need to develop students’ legal skills to align with the demands of the job market and ongoing changes in mediation laws.

The session saw active participation from students and specialists, reflecting the growing interest in mediation and legal topics in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
