Committed to Provide High-Quality Education that Meets Society Needs, Says Al Zayani
Continuing to Advance Education, Research, Innovation, and Community Services, Says Al-Mashhadani
Gulf University (GU) ranked first among local universities in Bahrain and 53rd in the first Arab ranking of universities for the year 2023. GU’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Professor Mona bint Rashid Al-Zayani said, “This achievement reflects our permanent commitment to provide high-quality education and distinguished academic programs that meet the needs of students and contribute to the development of society.”
Al-Zayani added, “This classification shows that we are on the right path, and we will spare no effort to make GU’s outputs congruent with what we hope and with the principles of quality.”
“We at the Board of Trustees of GU feel great pride and happiness that our university topped the local universities in the Kingdom of Bahrain and ranked 53rd in the Arab first ranking of universities for the year 2023,” she said.
She stressed the commitment to continue to work hard and persistently to achieve higher levels of excellence and innovation in higher education.
She thanked all those who contributed to this success, including faculty, staff, students, and all partners, adding, “We are determined to continue our journey towards building a better future for higher education in the region and the world.”
On his part, GU’s President, Prof. Mohannad Al-Mashhadani, said that this achievement is the culmination of the university’s continuous efforts to maintain high levels of educational and research quality, in addition to its focus on innovation and community service.
In a statement, Al-Mashhadani explained that this outstanding achievement comes within the first version of the classification, which was launched in cooperation with the Association of Arab Universities, the League of Arab States, the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), and the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils. Al-Mashhadani added that this achievement indicates the prominent role played by GU in raising the level of higher education in Bahrain and the Arab world. GU was honored by His Excellency, the Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities.
He pointed out that the existence of an Arab classification for the first time is an important step to upgrading Arab universities in general so that these universities can evaluate themselves before being evaluated from abroad, considering that the Arab classification will be a good opportunity for the emergence of Arab universities with this classification.
The president added that the criteria on which the Arab classification is based may help universities develop themselves and their outputs, especially at the level of scientific research, leadership, innovation, and community service, and thus, universities far from international classifications can build on positive factors and improve the negatives.
He stressed the importance of this ranking as an important step towards improving and developing Arab universities to stand in the ranks of international universities, pointing out that the classification will help enhance transparency and competitiveness among universities in the region.
It is worth mentioning here that the university holds institutional accreditation, and all its programs are trusted by the Education and Training Quality Authority, as well as professional international accreditation of the British Royal Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). In addition, the university obtained membership in the international AASCB and the accreditation of the Association of Chartered Accountants in Britain (ACCA). Furthermore, it is an IET Associate Member and an Association of Colleges of Journalism and Mass Media (ASJMC) member. Thus, the communication program at GU is the first academic program in the Middle East to obtain this accreditation.
It is also noteworthy that GU launched the “Advertising and Digital Marketing” program this year in cooperation with the University of Northampton in the United Kingdom, which is the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The program grants a certificate accredited by the United Kingdom in this specialization. In addition, the university offers other academic programs in cooperation with the University of Northampton in the United Kingdom, such as a bachelor’s degree in “Electrical and Electronic Engineering” and “Mechanical Engineering.”
