GU Brings Together Peace and Sustainability, Says Al-Mashhadani

Gulf University hosted a special event in collaboration with the Torch of Love and Peace Association to celebrate World Peace Day as part of its Sustainability Week. The event witnessed remarkable participation from various societal segments, including ambassadors, parliamentarians, and prominent figures from local society, academic institutions, and government bodies.

Professor Mohanad Al-Mashhadani, GU President, emphasized in a statement made on the occasion the vital role universities play in instilling values of peace and sustainability, saying, “Peace and sustainable development go hand in hand. At Gulf University, we believe that education plays a vital role in building safe and stable communities, and through the ‘Sustainability Week,’ we aim to raise awareness of these issues among our students and the wider community.”

For his part, the President of the Torch of Love and Peace Association, Mr. AtiyatAllah Rouhani, highlighted the importance of collaboration between academic and civil society institutions to achieve true peace, saying, “This event marks a step towards building a generation aware of the importance of peace as a fundamental requirement for achieving sustainable development. We are delighted with this partnership with Gulf University, which shares our vision of supporting peace locally and internationally.”

Attendees interested in peace and sustainability provided the event with a distinctive atmosphere that reflected strong engagement with these two important values. Attendees praised GU, the Torch of Love, and the Peace Association for their efforts in organizing this celebration, which contributed to raising awareness of the importance of building peaceful and sustainable communities in line with Bahrain’s Vision 2030. They also commended the active role of Gulf University, the Torch of Love, and the Peace Association in promoting a culture of peace and sustainability, stressing the importance of continuing these efforts to create a safe and sustainable environment for future generations.

The celebration included segments focused on the close relationship between peace and sustainability and artistic and cultural activities aimed at promoting the message of peace.

It is worth noting that GU launched its first edition of ‘Sustainability Week’ on October 20th, highlighting the importance of achieving sustainable development in society and raising awareness among students and community members about environmental, economic, and social issues affecting our future.
