What an inspiring journey at THE Innovation & Impact Summit 2024, held from December 10th-12th in Delhi in partnership with Shiv Nadar University!

Over three days, we explored transformative innovation for social change, how higher education is shaping brighter futures, and how today’s graduates will drive tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Global thought leaders fly from several countries to discuss how innovation can transform both higher education and society. The powerful discussions and collaborations that emerged will leave a lasting impact across the education landscape in coming years.

I was fortunate to join the conference alongside His Excellency President of Gulf University, Bahrain “Prof. Mohanad Al Firas”. A particular highlight was the “Leaders panel: Today’s graduates, tomorrow’s innovators” where President Al Firas shared insightful perspectives on how universities can nurture the next generation of leaders and change-makers.

The panel, moderated by Mr. Phil Baty, Chief Global Affairs Officer, featured esteemed panelists including Prof. Ananaya Mukherjee, Vice-Chancellor, Shiv Nadar University; Mr. Suneet Singh Kochar, Founder and CEO Fateh Education; and Prof. Stephen Spinelli, President, Babson College. The discussion addressed critical questions such as:

· Essential Competencies for Graduates in a Dynamic World: President Al Firas emphasized the importance of adaptability, critical thinking, creativity, communication skills, collaboration, digital literacy, cultural competence, emotional intelligence, resilience, and a lifelong learning commitment. These skills are crucial for navigating a rapidly changing world and driving innovation.

· Fostering Interdisciplinary Collaboration: President Al Firas stressed the importance of creating an environment that encourages cross-departmental communication, supports interdisciplinary research, and incentivizes collaborative projects. He highlighted the role of networking events like the THE Summit, cross-curricular teaching, and industry partnerships in fostering innovation. His motto, “Bring innovation, My Attention,” reflects Gulf University’s commitment to a culture that values creativity and encourages faculty, staff, and students to share their innovative ideas.

· Metrics for Success in Developing Future Leaders: The discussion also touched upon critical metrics for success, including leadership skills assessments, 360-degree feedback, progress against development plans, promotion rates, retention rates, revenue growth, employee engagement, customer satisfaction, innovation, and diversity and inclusion metrics.

The panel discussion provided valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing higher education today. Prof. Mohanad Al Firas emphasized that Gulf University is dedicated to implement these learnings to ensure our graduates are well-equipped to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
